Best of Both Worlds Concert
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus
Review by Ross Anthony

If you're a Miley/Hannah fan, you're going to enjoy this show. Though the theatre ticket is a bit expensive, it's quite a bit cheaper than the concert ticket and more likely available (and at my theatre, you can keep the glasses). While the 3D isn't as striking as others I've seen, it's definitely clean and adds a splash of depth – one step closer to being there. Though camera work and editing is super slick throughout, it becomes a bit bland by the end of the concert. Nothing edgy is ever added to the visual effects arsenal, purists may appreciate that.

Musically, the mix is fair, never outstanding and the vocals always felt low on volume to me. Except for the sweet song that Miley wrote for her Grandfather. That's one of the rare times you could hear the distinct quality, individuality in her voice. The players are all fine musicians and the tunes are bubble-gum pop with a hint of 80's rock, "the Bangles" come to mind. I was hoping she might do a duet with her father on stage, but no such luck. Though the two do strum a little together behind the scenes. Speaking of which,

I quite enjoyed the behind-the-scenes segments that punctuate this primarily concert film. The first segment shows Hannah and performers creating and practicing their routines. I think it's great for kids to see that Miley doesn't just wake up polished. She makes mistakes, she practices – there's a learning curve and work involved. This is why I also appreciated the bit where she becomes fearful of a stage lift where five dancers raise her in the air. During one performance they almost dropped her. As a result, she wanted to "drop" the routine, but was encouraged to get back on the horse and trust the players and changes they made for her safety. Taking calculated risks is an important part of life. And lastly, it's good for kids to see that Hannah and Miley are distinct personas. Hannah is make-believe and Miley brings her to life – but Miley is a real live person, Hannah is not.

Other cute behind-the-scene segments include brief interviews with the kids in line for the concert, a fun a/v collage of them screaming at various pitches of excitement, and an even more fun running race of dads clad in high-heals. It's sweet to see what some fathers will do to make their daughters happy with a prized award of 4 Hannah Montana tickets.

Overall, a good clean experience sure to entertain young fans, parents will enjoy seeing their kids happy.
