Shine: Inspiring True Stories
Review by Ross Anthony

The snug and cozy Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica currently hosts this "radiant" little show on a monthly basis. I heard about it at the tail end of 2015, and was finally able to catch a performance. I brought Dad with me and we both enjoyed ourselves. Each of the seven or so speakers engaged and inspired in their beautifully unique ways, save for one who was a bit trying. I think that's a pretty good average. In fact, one of the engaging speakers was selected randomly from the audience. (Well, it wasn't completely random -- we had to submit our names in a hat if we were up for the task -- and "no," I did not submit my name.)

That's a good show right there, but Shine's co-hosts also shined. They were just the right amount of fun, bubbly, silly and professional. They moved the ball well. Add to that a talented singer/piano player who intimately serenaded at the start of the program and the return from intermission, and your evening is further filled.

It's always a pleasure to see a live show, and important to share meaningful moments with actual people. There's so much "entertainment" out there that's violent or jaded, treat yourself to a refreshing night of positive energy with some fellow humans (www.StoreyProductions.com/shine_storytelling)

Rand() functions, Pho chicken soup, rollerblading, and frozen yogurt (w/ blueberries) also rock! (Btw, rand is short for random. It can also stand for "Really Awkward Nutty Dinosaurs" -- which is quite rand, isn't it?) Being alive is the miracle.
