Sierra Madre Playhouse welcomes, violinist, vocalist, and composer Jagan Ramamoorthy. Celebrated for his captivating interpretations that fuse time-honored Southern and Northern Indian music traditions with contemporary influences, on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 4 pm. His performances blend the intricate nuances of the Gaayaki-Ang genre (singing through the instrument, a playing technique which emulates the flexibility of the human voice) with a deep knowledge of rare ragas and traditional compositions.

His extensive film credits include performing the violin solo for director Ang Lee’s 2003 blockbuster Hulk. He has also collaborated with renowned producers, directors, and composers such as Danny Elfman, John Madden, Albert Brookes, Sam Raimi, Christopher Young, Roger Young, Michael Giacchino, Thomas Newman, and Harry Gregson Williams.

Both Ramamoorthy’s father and grandmother taught him the violin at an early age. He subsequently studied with some of the most respected gurus in Carnatic and Hindustani music, including Dr. N. Rajam and Pandit V.U. Rajurkar, and further advanced his skills with the esteemed musical scholars at Banaras Hindu University before pursuing a Master of Fine Arts at CalArts.
