Since my writing style had been compared to Salinger’s, I picked up a copy of his work that happened across my way. The book is seemingly divided into two stories "Franny" and "Zooey." But as you read on, you find the stories intertwine into one. This is not an action book. For instance, in 150 pages Zooey manages to get up from the bath, move to the front room, and then a bedroom. Not exactly edgy action. But it is exactly edgy dialogue. This is the entire book. Dialogue of an over-educated family to the point of self-loathing. Siblings Franny and Zooey feel victims of their elder brother's "special education" -- not that ordinary stuff taught in regular school. Very interesting... a page turner. I enjoyed it. Even though times have since changed, I felt it quite fresh.
"Sometimes I think that knowledge -- when it's knowledge for knowledge's sake, anyway -- is the worst of all... Knowledge should lead to wisdom, and that if it doesn't, it's just a disgusting waste of time! Wisdom is supposed to be the goal of knowledge."
