Ghostbusters
Frozen Empire
Review by Ross Anthony

Wow, a green splat on RT? That's harsh. I loved this newest installment! It's big, it's fun, it's got the cool car, the goofy ghosts, one obligatory sliming, even Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson have some reasonable screentime. And there's the song, copyright lawsuits aside, still a very fun song, it tickled me pink the way Rudd works it into the dialogue.

There are some very strong performances here: McKenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Kamail Nanjiani, especially, provide dramatic and comedic impact.

Okay, the plot is definitely a weak point. But, honestly, I didn't expect a rock solid plot. Many many excellent films have wobbly plots. We see movies for the interactions, for the dialogue, for the strong emotional and funny performances, amazing visuals. Or is that just me? Sure, I agree, lots of silly variations on ghosts, not great for a cohesive plot (just one example), but entertaining? YES!

That said, the McKenna Grace/teen ghost subplot really engages. I would have liked to see them develop that one further. It could have affected audiences on an even deeper level. Alas, overall, I had a great time with this film. Lot's of subtle humor, even in the reactions shots. There's a lot going on, listen carefully. I have no personal or professional connection to the cast or crew, just as a film-lover, it seems apparent to me that talented people at every level of production put warmth creativity and good humor into this film.
