Not getting enough Walken? Need more Cowbell? Here's the drug for you. A group of 9 young comedians take turns impersonating the not-so-late great Christopher Walken. There's just something about the hair, about the punctuation, about the dancer-turned-hard-guy that makes some people seek out more. (Myself included.)
Hop in the car head to Hollywood, skip off the 101 at Sunset and you're there. Theatre 68,is a snug little venue with good seating and a passionate troupe of actors. I was expecting a one-at-a-time round-robin of impersonators, but "All About Walken" is more of a collaboration of Walken heads performing in SNL type skits. Definitely reminiscent of Chicago's Second City. Some skits were more packed with laughs than others. But Walken selling feminine douche had the audience peeing in their pants. Bobby De Niro, Jim Carrey, and Colin Ferrell also show up -- via impersonations.
Video shorts, sort of "Reality Walken," are also integrated into the show. They're only okay, the live stuff is better. I Greatly enjoyed Holleman's wide-eyed "Suicide Kings" scene as well. Overall, a lot of fun.
In the words of the producer/director: "Some people just have this thing in them where they want to impersonate Walken. The pauses, the crack in his voice, the wide-eyed wonder … "
