Review by Ross Anthony

An intimate, yet energetic show starring an acoustic guitar buddy duo. Indie Folk Rock would be the broad stroke description, but I want to add to that Celtic and even Baroque. The guitar work is ornate in both fingering and dynamics. Their original songs are compelling and their storytelling fun sincere and genuine. These two give a great show. Audiences will feel that their evening is unique and personal, both musicians are present. I would have enjoyed this show even if they weren't such good musicians, but who doesn't like icing on their cake?

They reminded me of an couple of other very good buddy duos from the 90's: Billy Pilgrim and They Might Be Giants (not quite so quirky though). Anyway, I highly recommend RYANHOOD. If they're in your area, go see them and buy their cute little guitar-shaped USB stick with their entire catalogue.

And if you're in the Torrance area see a show at The Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation's George Nakano Theatre. This venue is cozy and intimate; there's not a bad seat in the house. The online ticketing screen makes the tables look large. The actual tables are approximately 2ft in diameter. Four seats to a table, folks turned the front chairs forward, and groups of friends combined tables.

Lastly, kudos to the sound engineer. The performance mix at the Nakano Theatre was perfect. Voices over guitar, I could hear every word and every riff, and the volume fell right in that sweet spot.

Twas a great night!
