The first 20 minutes and last 20 minutes of this film are excellent! Great writing, great directing, great editing, great shooting, momentum, pace, and great comedy. That's not to say that the innards fail. Daddy's Home still offers plenty of big laughs through out. In fact, the fertility doctor scene sent this audience rolling in the isles.
Ferrel and Wahlberg are both very funny in this well written and acted (even the kids perform well) comedy. However, in the middle, the momentum of the picture begins to rely too heavily on the back-and-forth one-upmanship of the two dads. It's cute, it's funny, but it slows the ball down, especially when there's so many other interesting motivations to play with. But, again, the film trailer doesn't try to sell you something different than that.
Had the middle been as rich as the start and wrap up, I'd have given this an A+. As is it's a B+/A-, I'll round up because the middle still hosted some strong humor. Lastly, while blatant product placement usually mars a film, I've got to admit, here filmmakers artfully and humorously integrate.
