Dance off sports a few really nice dance sequences, including 2 duets with great choreography and videography. The well-performed, dance competition sequences are interwoven with a second location -- which makes little logical sense - still, they score big with artistic sense. Those moments are music video worthy.
That said, the overall acting and direction of the film doesn't excel to the levels of those sequences. Further, the script misses the chance to show character growth. When the big bad producer of the National Nationals competition is caught in what looks like a fatal faux pas, the script drops the perfect opportunity for growth and instead indulges in rather lame comeuppance.
And while the film does enjoy a nice build towards the end (where most of the good dancing resides), the actual ending lacks meat and substantial resolution. Laughs are limited.
