Lovely cinematography. The best acting is done by Helena Bonham Carter. Always amusing, but seldom as powerful as I would have expected for an Oscar winner. The screenplay could have used a few more revisions (and/or the editing has left the piece with a few bumpy seams). IE: the Father dies very quickly. I’d have preferred stronger ending tie-ins to Lowell’s theory that stammers are related to traumatic events in a person’s formative years. The screenplay’s "king" strength is in the dialogue (after all, half the film’s title is “Speech”). That said, the script could have used more depth; even the few interesting subplots are drawn narrowly and not explored with richness.
