Legally Blonde 2: Red,
White and Blonde |
|
Review by Ross Anthony |
While the first "Legally Blonde"
quite impressed me as a fun and funny solid film,
"Red White & Blonde" doesn't fill the high-heeled
shoes. Relying heavily on the assumedly comical
note that an apparently ditzy, pink-clad,
blonde-haired beauty really can have intelligence;
the film offers little else to laugh at. Whereas, in
the first film, we feel greater sympathy for Elle
Woods as she genuinely rises to academic challenges
she herself never expected to meet; in this film, we
know with certainty she'll out maneuver the best of
them. Therefore, we watch rather than empathize. The
subject matter also plays a bit like propaganda:
Animal rights issues. Though, surprisingly RW&B
expounds some serious statements about how bills make
their ways through congress of the US. I also enjoyed the
underlying theme: "Don't think like them -- think
like YOU!" and "An honest voice is louder than a
crowd." The film is light and cute -- a solid B. But,
an extended joke based on some dog humor used in a
previous SOUTH PARK episode felt stolen. That said,
the PR people for this film have been working
overtime, they've sent me a letter stating that On
June 30th, 2003 select Vidal Sassoon salons across N.
America will be giving FREE "Flash of Blonde" hair
color treatments. For more info here are the contacts
