There's an absolutely lovely solo cello piece at the end which is beautifully written, and splendidly played. As for the film, the direction is intense, personal, passionate. The scenes play real, as if this were a documentary. Though all unknowns, the actors come off as very believable. In fact, the best thing about this picture is its ability to recreate the sort of long and misdirected days of youth.
But in striving to paint a somber tone the film goes a far longer distance than necessary. Scenes overstay by a factor of 2, making the production sadly laborious. It's too bad, too, because there is a great deal of talent and welcome passion in front and behind the camera.
