Imagine American Pie and South Park blending into one film. "SuperBad" follows a ragtag trio of high school seniors. They're teens, they're nerdy, they're dealing with a bombardment of hormones the best they know how. Hence, the film is chockfull of rather blatant sexual references that are both obscene and funny.
Seth Rogen (of Knocked Up) has written a picture with rolling dialogue that just doesn't quit. It's reality exaggerated. The direction is just as determined to keep the humor rumbling. Even at nearly two hours, the comedy just doesn't subside.
Besides the comedy, the film does a good job of capturing that awkward teenage boy-girl energy. Though, again exaggerated, it is often times bravely honest. The quirky friendship of the trio also plays well on the screen. Although, I would have liked to have seen some much deeper apologizing from one of the lead characters (Jonah Hill).
Unfortunately, the film leaves an icky aftertaste. Perhaps it's the unbridled focus on alcohol. Perhaps it's the mix of sexual suggestion with younger children. Perhaps it's the lack of responsibility displayed by so many of the teens and the two police officers in the film (one of which is played by Seth Rogen).
