When this first came out, I wasn't quite interested enough to see it. Since then however, I've become a fan of Prairie Home. I even went to see PHC when it came to Los Angeles's Hollywood Bowl in 2016. What a lovely venue to enjoy that type of show – even from the second to last row.
So now that Garrison has retired from PHC, seeing the film became more alluring to me. It's not a film full of spectacle (after all, it is about a radio show), but it does have a gentle warmness to it. I can't help but fearing lay folks will find it a bit sleepy. That said, I especially enjoyed Lily Tomlin's performance. Found the Guy Noir character annoying (but that could just be because Kline is not Keillor.). Overall, the film fails to be a must see – although, the "Penguin Joke" scene is. Look it up on Youtube. Keillor is perfect. I laughed hysterically.
Poetically, the live performance I saw at the Hollywood Bowl turned out to be Garrison's actual last show as ringleader.
