Southern California Brass Consortium
Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts
Review by Ross Anthony

Brass just feels good! While I love cello and violin, I did not miss the strings during this brass-centric, movie-theme-themed concert. Interestingly enough, this brass orchestra hosts a harpist. (Is a harp classified as strings?) During softer moments, that harp adds so much sweetness. Though, during more robust brass passages, the harp couldn't be heard. The percussion mixed well rather consistently.

The trombone section was almost unbreakably solid. What a beautiful color when mixed with French horns and tubas!

These horns filled the Cerritos Performing Arts Center with Movie music and American patriaotic music. While, I enjoyed all of the pieces, the Jurasic Park theme knocked my socks off.

The Cerritos Performing Arts Center is an absolutely cool place to see a show. Try the box seats that go vertical along the walls. The floor seats get you close and center, though, for orchestral concerts, I'd recommend going for a view were you could see over the music stands.
