Segerstrom is an amazing venue. It exudes value and quality. As I walk these carefully architected grounds, I get the feeling that the conceivers, producers, designers, crafters, and even the people involved in running and maintaining it ... they all care a great deal for the arts and want attendees to be inspired by all their offerings.

As for the show, perhaps I'm biased because this was my childhood, but the band did a spectacular job of presenting a multi-media display populated with iconic images from the decade - from famous faces, TV shows, bands, to commercials, and even clips that contrast current culture in such a way that strikes the funny bone. And, of course, the 1960's produced a sonic plethora of great music. These fine musicians carefully curate a robust song list. They play well, sing well, and tell interesting, personal, and appropriate stories well. In the second half, three or four of the musicians were featured each with a solo performance. I especially enjoyed the ukulele solo accompanied by clips from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." Here's a fun press note regarding the ukulele: "He doesn’t just play it masterfully; he plays it like it stole his car."

Despite only one screen playing video, the stage prop placement made the show feel visually multi-layered. Sometimes I'd get lost in the visuals and sometimes I'd get lost in the music. Always, I felt the musicians were with us in the show, really digging the experience. Oh, and many attendees came in tie-dye, bandanas, and bellbottoms.

Improvements. The mix was good, but I felt it could be better. Most notably, the lead vocals could have used a few more clicks of higher end on the eq, and just a touch more love with the volume. This is a tweak suggestion, and may be based on my position in the audience, and my particular taste.

Also, the show started 20 minutes late.

All and All, I had a great time, the band received a standing ovation. I sang, I clapped, I recommend!

The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is a royal collection of majestically architected venues which offers a classic and beautiful experience, even before you sit down to enjoy one of the performances they offer.
