Taiko means Drum. Synergy fills the stage with big drums. The music is almost entirely rhythmic, primal, beating. Technically, there's a lot to coordinate ... the lights, the moving of the instruments for each piece. While the set is rearranged behind, a soloist performs upfront. This provides sweet dynamics between the small, mostly soloist pieces, and the many-player, many-drum pieces. Though Taiko have a rich history, this show adds many modern flares!
Trying to describe Taiko with words is like trying to hold water in your hand. It's not something you listen to, so much as something you feel. Yet, Taiko also has a visual dimension baked in. These expert passionate players are in a disciplined dance with their sticks and each other. Their love for the art travels on the sound waves. They are synchronized swimmers that make thunder.
