Hearing is Believing |

Review by Ross Anthony |
Music is a beautiful thing. Rachel Flowers hears music when she eats. Yogurt has its own song. Lacking vision since birth, Rachel revels in audio. This film documents her talent, her challenge, and her blossoming from a family of local musicians into a prodigy on the verge of international reknown. Actually, why don't you listen to her right now? Here's her playing "Tarkus," as a big fan of Keith Emerson, it caught my attention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLT3Cb96-Mk
Production-wise, the doc is rather low-fi – lots of shaky camera, though a few really nice drone shots fly in here and there. A well-shot symphony scene raises the production value as well. But who cares, the music breaks through all of that. See Rachel meet plenty of music greats, including Keith, Stevie Wonder, and climaxing the production with on stage soloing for Dweezil Zappa on a couple of Frank Zappa tunes.
Surprisingly, the film doesn't spend much time interviewing Rachel – it just lets her fingers do the talkin'. Intimate, warm, musical, charming, inspiring.

It can also stand for "Really Awkward Nutty Dinosaurs" -- which is quite rand, isn't it?) Being alive is the miracle.
