Wow! Likely a 2025 Oscar Winner.
Amazing acting by Chalamet. The pulse, the pace of the character's thought and drive, plow through all obstacles like teens driving through a cornfield.
Amazing script and cinematography, fantastic editing, fun cameos, and a soundtrack that matches the driving force of the film.
Not for the faint of heart. Who would have thought a film about a ping-pong player would be less like a sports bio-pic and more like a thriller crossed with a mobster movie? And yes, people do get shot, and stabbed, and ...
I'd heard some viewers say that they just could not get into the film because the main character is such a narcissistic ass. Why can some productions entertain with ornery leads, while others can't? Perhaps it's mostly the actor's chi powering through the character's faults? That said, in this instance, Marty does have a few positives: an exceptional talent and a relentless belief in himself that mesmerizes.
Still, this is not a personality most folks would want to be around - myself included. However, in the finite lifespan of a feature film, Marty fueled by Chalamet is so hyper-self-centered and so blatantly disrespectful of others, I just had to chuckle, often. Though roughly based on an actual person, these behaviors are not being celebrated - but quite literally laughed at - for entertainment purposes.
